Nourished for Nil now serving Napier

Nourished for Nil

Nourished for Nil was formed in Hastings in 2017 by Christina McBeth and Louise Saurin, with a mission to rescue food that would otherwise go to waste and redistribute it to the Hawke's Bay community. Their goal is to minimise the food waste in Hawke's Bay and keep the community nourished for nil.

Co-founder Christina McBeth says “We rescue food from donors and pass it on to recipients in the space of mere hours. Our team is a group of committed volunteers who share a passion for reducing waste and helping the community.”

Christina wanted to bring the initiative to Napier after getting a "lot of requests and pleas" from Napier locals to do so. So, just before the COVID-19 lockdown, Nourished for Nil opened a second distribution centre on the corner of Riverbend Road and Cranby Crescent. The Napier branch is a collaborative project with Turning Point Church Mercy Ministry, who are based at this location.

"We are very excited to be able to give this opportunity to our Napier neighbours because we realise there is a lot of need for it and a lot of food waste in Napier as well," says Christina.

The Napier location is open on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4pm to 5pm.

“Nourished for Nil will not discriminate, judge or label any community members who find themselves needing their service. We are open to everyone!” says Christina.
