Aaron Torres recently won the #mynapier photography competition run by Napier City Business Inc (NCBI). Judged by local photographer Rachel Burt and sportsman Zac Guildford, his black and white capture of the iconic County Hotel building in our city centre was chosen as the winner out of hundreds of entries received over the lockdown period.
Aaron and his wife are originally from the Philippines and have chosen to make our city and region their home.
“As photography enthusiasts, it was easy for us to fall in love with Napier’s Art Deco architecture, abundant sunshine, and beaches in Hawkes Bay,” says Aaron.
Napier City Business Inc promote and advocate for the businesses and people that make up our CBD zone. One of their goals is to encourage vibrancy in the CBD, not an easy task during a lockdown. The photography competition was to try and create the vibrancy virtually, and to give people who live near the central city a reason to work the CBD into their isolation exercise.
The response to the photography competition was overwhelming and the hope is that all the gorgeous photos really did help keep people thinking about our city and making them smile during what was a tough time for many.
