Napier Pre-Loved Market a chance to shop quality clothing sustainably

Pre Loved Market

Napier peeps! Here’s your chance to nab yourself designer clothing at a fraction of the retail price and shop sustainably at the same time.

The inaugural Napier Pre-Loved Market is being held this Saturday, January 16 at Asher Hall, Tennyson Street, Napier from 11.30am until 3.30pm and it will be jampacked full of quality pre-loved men’s and womenswear, accessories and homewares.

Market founder, Tiffiney Scott, is excited to present a line-up of 18 resellers, who are travelling from as far away as Tauranga to join the fun.

“We have resellers with contemporary pieces at affordable prices covering fast fashion brands like Zara and H & M and premium brands like Kate Sylvester and Karen Walker,” Tiffiney says.

“Menswear and womenswear will be available and there are also some vintage resellers joining with pieces great for the upcoming Art Deco Festival.

“We are also super excited to have Seven Homes Furniture and Pinto and Millie joining with striking cane furniture and homewares. Isle of Bohemia will also have two mini workshops on how to rework and repair pre-loved pieces at 12pm and 2pm.”

Like many ideas, Tiffiney came up with the Pre-Loved Market concept during lockdown as a result of a wardrobe clear out.

“Friends have said they are put off going to op-shops as they find it overwhelming to hunt out perfect pieces. The idea for the market stemmed from wanting to create a space where curated pre-loved products can be showcased in an easy-to-shop way.

“Personally, I have been trying to source clothing from NZ Made brands and pre-loved items through thrifting.

In the past I have worked with overseas fast fashion brands and have seen first-hand the volume and waste the industry creates. There has been an increased awareness of consumption with platforms like Instagram creating a new space for reselling pre-loved product. Hawke's Bay has some amazing resellers and I thought there was an opportunity for starting an accessible market day.”

With a full waiting list for a second market day, Tiffiney has discovered many other people are on the same wavelength and are keen to shop sustainably.

“It has been amazing to see the excitement and support for the event and we look forward to seeing lots of locals on Saturday!”

There is no entry fee to attend the Pre-Loved Market. Tiffiney suggests bringing cash to purchase items as some vendors may not take Eftpos.
