Mutual support the key to a positive lockdown experience

Laura Jeffares is one talented woman who is known by many locals for her beautiful floral arrangements and her fun posts on social media. She is also a die-hard Napierite who always gives support to her community however she can.

Laura found ways to support and be supported by the community during the lockdown.

“I donated to the Napier Family Centre and also shared on social media about the social services, counselling and budget advice work the Family Centre does. Also, during lockdown we signed up for a contactless vegetable subscription delivery service. All the produce is grown in Bayview from Petite Jardin – from a family-run farm to my door. It’s a pretty amazing way to directly support a family in the community!”

Laura Jeffares Florist and Stylist offered a pre-order service for Mother’s Day dried floral bouquets, to be delivered when Alert Level 3 began. Laura was overwhelmed with the support of her community and Instagram followers, who jumped at the opportunity to support her business.

Laura also received support through being sent products from local winery Pask Winery and Zeffer Cidery.

“My business has worked with Zeffer before so it was awesome to know they were thinking of me,” says Laura.

Laura’s advice to anyone feeling concerned about their future is to acknowledge the uncertainty, but try not to dwell on it. Instead, be kind, focus on what you can control and look at change as an opportunity.
