Planit Events is a Hawke’s Bay owned and operated event management company. Another arm to their business is Planit Staff, which provides temporary hospitality staff to the hospitality industry. The pandemic lockdown shut off both the company’s temping and event management income. To keep the business afloat, Planit Events put a new twist on the temping side of the business by placing temporary staff into kiwifruit orchards fulltime. Not only did this provide Planit with a small income stream, it also provided opportunities for people who had lost their jobs during the lockdown.
Planit Events Director Rebecca Tacon says, “We are now looking to grow this side of the business. We still have very little revenue coming in from events side of the business, so we plan to focus on working with the hospitality industry to provide temporary staff to help them through tricky periods, and to slowly place more people in the kiwifruit industry. This is such a crucial time for people who have lost their jobs through Covid, and we love to being able to help employ more people and place them in work.
