Everyone welcome at Sunday sunrise yoga

Napier people have been given the opportunity to start their Sundays with sunrise yoga this summer, thanks to Napier yoga studio, YinYoga.

The Sunday sunrise yoga classes are being held outside Magnet Café on Marine Parade, from now until March 2021 (weather permitting), with just a koha requested to cover operating costs.

YinYoga owners, Minnie and Liam Baredsen, are continuing a YinYoga tradition started by previous owners and say it’s a way to give back to the community.

“For many reasons, not everyone has the ability to join a yoga studio,” Minnie says.

“By making this class a koha class it gives everybody the opportunity to make yoga a part of their life. We know how much of a positive mental, emotional and physical impact yoga has on people.

“Yoga itself has many benefits from helping to restore the body, calming the mind, relaxation, strengthen muscles, increasing flexibility and helps with posture, just to name a few.

“The beautiful thing about doing yoga outside is that it combines two amazing worlds, the practice of yoga and the calmness and peacefulness of nature. It's an amazing feeling getting up early and welcoming the day in such a still and tranquil way.”

The style of yoga offered in the sunrise yoga class is typically Vinyasa, which is described as constant movement linked with breath. Mats and blankets are available for those people who don't have their own yoga gear, and Minnie says the teachers do their utmost to accommodate all levels – from complete novice to those with several years of experience.

Since announcing the return of classes earlier this month, Minnie and and Liam have been inundated with positive feedback.

“People seem to really love it. We have heard from some people that it is great to have the opportunity for all abilities to practice in a safe and calming environment.

“Having it down at Magnet is a great way to link up with an awesome local business, plus the location down there is amazing and works well for large classes – and who doesn't love a coffee after a good stretch on a beautiful Hawkes Bay morning?!”

You can join YinYoga’s Sunrise Yoga on Sundays at 6.30am, outside Magnet Café, on the Port end of Marine Parade.
