Hot meals for community heroes

Vik Vikas and Neela Neela supplied

Vik Vikas and his wife hit the ground running the day after Cyclone Gabrielle struck Hawke’s Bay.

Selflessly, they sprung into action to deliver 150 meals here, 500 loaves of bread there. There were also hundreds of bottles of milk delivered, all paid for by the Boat Ramp Eatery owner.

More than a month after the cyclone the chefs who work at the Ahuriri eatery have continued to turn out hundreds of meals for volunteers and people in need.

Vik and Neela Neela, a Napier resident who has been cooking for volunteers these past few weeks from her own home, have been leading a small team making and delivering meals throughout the community.

Vik also has other skills – in the early days he was seen helping to fix gates at Puketapu before feeding the people out there with burgers.
